Most of these messages are from people who have used my website to begin their journey towards becoming aircraft mechanics.
The rest of the messages usually involve various questions, and the title of this post is one of the most common.
To answer this question—
Should I become an aircraft mechanic?
—I usually discuss why I like and recommend this career to people who think they might also like it.
There are FOUR main reasons why I recommend this career:
• You can make excellent money
• You can begin your career without going to college
• You don’t need any special skills to begin your career
• In many cases you can begin making money very quickly
You can make excellent money
Most people I talk to ask me something like this: How much money will I be making? or What kind of salary will I have as an aircraft mechanic?
There are a wide range of salaries in this field. Some new mechanics only make around $35 - $50,000 a year, but those are usually mechanics who are just starting out.
Most mechanics I know, including myself, make anywhere from $70,000 - $100,000 a year.
My average is usually around $85,000 a year.
You can begin your career without going to college
One thing I’ve noticed over the years, is that many people don’t realize you can work in this field without a college degree. But the fact is, you certainly can!
I even work with people who are as young as 16 years old right now. These teenagers are still in high school and usually work later in the day so they can train to become full-time aircraft technicians once they graduate high school.
Remember, I’m not an aviation school or college trying to get you to sign up for their program, I’m just trying to give you some good information you can use if you’re thinking about becoming an aircraft mechanic.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some good college programs out there, but the fact is in many cases you can become an aircraft mechanic and begin making money very quickly without going to college.
I spent around $30,000 to go to college because I didn’t know that there were other options available.
Oh, and just in case you’re wondering, you don’t have to join the military either. That’s not what I’m talking about. You can become an aircraft mechanic without going to college AND without joining the military.
The thing you need to remember is, you don’t need a college degree, an A&P certificate, or a Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence to begin your career.
You don’t need any special skills to begin your career
Even if you’ve never used a basic screwdriver before, you can still become an aircraft mechanic and have a great career.
I’ve worked with people who literally came in off the streets and began their training. Some of these men and women had never done any type of mechanical work in their lives.
Working on aircraft isn’t as hard as some people might think it is, and most of the work is done using basic hand tools. As soon as you begin doing the actual work, you’ll start to become familiar with these different tools.
Even if you don’t know what a “crescent wrench” is, you can become an aircraft mechanic and make really good money.
In many cases you can begin making money very quickly
You do this by using hands-on training so that you actually make money as you’re gaining skills.
Like I mentioned earlier, I work with many people who haven’t even graduated high school yet. Right now there’s a 17-year-old high school student working on my crew, and he’s making around $14 an hour while he’s training for this job.
I know that $14 an hour might not sound like much, but you have to understand he’s only 17! That’s just the money he’s making while he’s training, he’ll make a lot more once he becomes a full-time aircraft mechanic.
I am going to show you exactly what you need to do so you can begin training and making money.
The good thing about using my website, is you can find out everything you need to know about this career all in one place.
I’ve designed the site to answer all of the most common questions.
If you or someone you know is thinking about this career, you need to read my book:
Making Money as an Aircraft Mechanic
It’s short so it doesn’t take long to read it, and it’s also free. In that book I discuss how I make $70,000 - $100,000 a year as an aircraft mechanic, and how you can do the same.
